DEF-007 — Intermittent false VIN already used after successful add

Summary

Sometimes after successfully adding a new vehicle, the app shows the message “VIN number has been used” even though the VIN is newly entered and highly unlikely to already exist.

Environment

  • Platform: DriveLink iOS App
  • Area: Vehicle Enrollment / Data Integrity / UX
  • Requirement(s): FR-02 (Vehicle Enrollment, VIN uniqueness)
  • Date Reported: 2025-12-26
  • Testing Phase: iOS App Initial Execution (3rd Milestone)

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Add a new vehicle with a valid, random VIN
  2. Complete add flow successfully
  3. Observe post-success state/message
  4. Sometimes shows “VIN number has been used” even though VIN is new

Expected Behaviour

After a successful add, show success confirmation only (and the vehicle should appear in the user’s account). If a VIN is truly already used, the error must appear before success and allow the user to edit the VIN.

Actual Behaviour

Sometimes after successfully adding a new vehicle, the app shows the message “VIN number has been used” even though the VIN is newly entered and highly unlikely to already exist.

Impact

  • Confusing/inaccurate error
  • Potential data integrity or state-sync issue
  • May block users from proceeding
